Jury: Ex-cop lied about 92-year-old's shooting
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- A jury convicted an Atlanta police officer Tuesday of lying to cover up the shooting death of an elderly woman during a botched drug raid.
The jury deliberated for four days before finding Arthur Tesler, 40, guilty of making false statements.
He was acquitted of violating his oath of office and imprisonment under color of legal process, The Associated Press reported.
Tesler could be sentenced to up to five years in prison, said Don Plummer, a spokesman for Fulton County Superior Court.
Two other officers, Gregg Junnier and Jason Smith, have pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges in the case. Junnier testified against Tesler at the trial.
All three officers were involved in the serving of a "no-knock" warrant on Kathryn Johnston's home November 26, 2006. Police said that Johnston, 92, fired at them with an old pistol and that they shot back in self-defense.
